Nigel Bowden

As the ringmaster behind the succession of used car scams I started to look into Nigel’s history on review websites. One interesting find was a reference to Nigel Bowden in the horror story that was Hyde Motor Company LTD.

At first glance this used car outfit had no connection to Nigel. However it didn’t take long to find a reference to Nigel Bowden amongst depressingly familiar second hand car horror stories

My bought a Land Rover Freelander from this car dealer. Three and a half months later the exhaust fell off. We took the car to our garage to be repaired. Upon inspection it was revealed the the bit of the chassis that the exhaust bolts to, was rotten. Also there were exhaust fumes coming into the cab. We had a couple of quotes to get it repaired and the cheapest was nearly £2000 pounds (she paid £3500 for the car). We contacted Nigel Bowden who told us to bring the car to one of his smaller, rougher looking car sales plots. He didn’t show up but sent one of his staff to inspect it. His man had a look underneath and then informed us that we had a problem. He informed us that as the vehicle had been owned by wife for over 3 months that Nigel Bowden wasn’t going to do anything to sort the problem out. When the man Nigel sent to inspect the Freelander was leaving, he leaned out of his car window and reminded my wife that this was the chance she took, in buying a used car. He was smirking as he drove off. Due to the fumes coming into the cab she couldn’t use the car. She was reduced to selling the car for £1200. We have reported him to the DVLA and the Police. There was very little they could do except keep their eye on him. It’s been very difficult to find a way of leaving a review on him. I was unable to leave a review on Google, ebay and auto trader. There are some really good second hand car dealers out there. This guy is not one of them do not trust him. If you do have to buy a car off him please take an experienced mechanic or get the AA/RAC to insect the vehicle. My wife was so upset. Note; date of purchase is approximate. The vehicle was purchased in the middle of 2019

I think the interesting thing here is how similar these review horror stories are to anybody familiar with Nigel’s work at Senna Autos, Bowden Cars and Dukinfield Road Car Sales. (SK14)

A quick google turned up this image

Senna Auto’s Ancestor

Which will be a painfully familiar place to fans of Nigel’s other works (Senna Autos, Bowden Cars, Dukinfield Road Car sales).

Could the Hyde Motor Company be a hidden gem in Nigel Bowden’s quest to become the worst car dealer in the North West , or was it simply where he learned his trade?

If you have any more information please leave a comment below and remember to spread the word about the history of Senna Autos and remember to read the reviews of Bowden Cars, Dukinfield Car Sales and now the Hyde Motor Company (SK14)

  1. I got stung last year and have documented everything in a Youtube video. Because of lockdown at the time, solicitors were telling me there’d be about a 12 month wait before I could get to small claims court. Isn’t about time we got rogue traders onboard to put this scumbag away?

  3. I was sold a car with an engine management light issue which they refused to fix or refund as per the consumers rights act. I’ll now be pursuing a claim through the small claims court

  5. Interestingly, there have been transporters around today removing all the vehicles from the plot.

Fingers crossed the place is gone for good!

An absolute blight on the local community.

    • That is interesting. I was looking to see what was going on today but couldn’t find any cars for sale. This could explain it. I have had some comments saying he had moved to another business close by. But honestly they looked more like an attempt to divert attention from Nigel and Senna Autos.

  6. I got stung by Nigel and have just successfully taken him to court and won. I say success, however he failed to turn up at court, no surprise there given his total lack of engagement throughout Trying to get my money back has been like trying to get blood from a stone. I don’t hold out much hope of ever seeing my money again, however he now has a court order against him and one that I intend to push on with when he defaults on it and doesn’t pay up . Then he will have a default judgment against him and I will happily send the bailiffs in.. absolute cowboy, how is he still getting away with it? I also reported him to trading standards.

  7. Hey – I’m writing on behalf of my 78 year old dad who has unfortunately fallen victim to the Senna Scam. Long story short, my dad spent his last £3k in savings on a car, which blew up on the motorway 4 weeks after buying which was a really scary experience for him. He then spent a further £300 to instruct a solicitor to take his claim to court (solicitor said he had a VERY strong case) only for 2 weeks ago my dad drove past the garage and saw it’s now empty with no trace of Nigel. Without an address to serve him, my dad is now left with no options, he’s scrapped the car and got £300 back, living on a pension and the current cost of living I am beyond angry and disgusted this is allowed to happen. It’s caused him so much stress, made him quite poorly and now there needs to be some justice?!? Can anyone get in contact with any further information that could help us???

  8. I’m also in the list of people who have a CCJ against Bowden Cars Ltd for the full amount and yet these utter scumbags seem to have completely gotten away with it by removing all the assets in the business and vacating their lot. Amazing comments above from I assume Nigel and his friends trying to scare people off.. Yeah it doesn’t work so well when you have so many outstanding judgements against you mate!

  9. Did anyone ever find an address for him so the bailiffs could be sent in? I’ve got as far as winning in court and having to send the bailiffs in but he’s not at any of the addresses I gave them. I’d love to see him have to pay everyone he’s scammed.
